internet marketing or if you have already tried and failed, you
may be asking yourself the question is it really possible to make
money on the internet? The answer to this question is an
unmitigated 'yes'.

You probably already have some idea about the area of interest
you wish to pursue. But, if you want to be successful online –
which I am sure you do – my advice is to start by thinking about
the problems that other people face and how you might be
able to help them to do so.

You.can’t.really.go.very far wrong if you stick to the three main
areas that I like to call the golden triangle:

Within each of the above markets there are very many niches
that are extremely profitable. You job is to drill down into each
of them until you find some specific area that you will specialize
within. With a little research, you would discover that, within
the golden triangle, the following niches are very lucrative
indeed:

It is fair to say that a list of all the problems that people face
and for which they are looking for solutions, would not fill a
book – it would fill a whole library! And that is no exaggeration
at all. There are very many more niches within each of those
three areas. But more importantly, each of those niches has
sub-niches. And often,.that’s.where.you.can.most.readily.profit.
because it is where you can become a specialist.
If you were to consider just one of the above niches, for
example how to get fit, there are many sub-niches you could
specialize within:
The Fitness Niche
 Yoga
 Running
 Martial Arts
 Crossfit
 Weight Training
 Sports (All Kinds)
 Nutrition
Of course, the list is much longer, but hopefully you get the
idea. What you are looking for, is a small niche area that
interests you, that has a definite following, and comes with a
series of problems that interested parties must face, and solve.
Again, just as an example, suppose you decide that your
business is going to be focused on running, what kind of
problems do runners face?
You would need to make a list.

Again, this is just an example, but right there, by studying the
problems faced by runners, you can probably think of products
that could most certainly be offered to the targeted audience
your site will be designed to attract. You might start a website
that provides reviews of footwear and attire, for example, and
make money from the Amazon Associates (affiliate) program.
But straight away, just from looking at our embryonic list, I can
also see that it would be quite easy to research and create a
nice information product that would address the problem of
how to run a marathon. Lots of people make that particular
decision every year, and most of them – at least at the start –
have no idea what is involved.
…nd.that’s.why.they.turn.to.the.internet
Now,.that’s.the.kind.of.thing.you.need.to.do.for.yourself.ie.
decide which of the three golden areas you are going to tackle.
And then drill down into markets, niches and sub-niches until
you find the right topic for your site. And within that topic,
come up with a list of problems with which you can help other
people.
Don’t.worry.at.this.stage.whether.or.not.you.can.solve.those.
problems, just find them and make sure that enough people are
searching for the answers.
So how do we know if the niche we are interested in is big
enough and profitable enough?
There are various ways you could go about doing this kind of
research, but the thing you must bear in mind is that you
should be looking to see if people are actually buying products
and services within your chosen niche. If they not buying, then
of course, you will have to go back and find another niche. But
if they are already buying in sufficient numbers, and the niche
interests you personally, then you have found the opportunity
you need.
One tool I find very useful for checking whether or not a
potential product will sell is Publisher Rocket. It checks the
world’s.largest online market (Amazon) and it also provides
information on Google searches too. From it, we can get a ton
of very useful information. So the first thing I would do is plug
my raw idea into the software to see what it comes up with.
As you can see, Publisher Rocket confirms that people are
actually buying exactly the type of product I was thinking about
creating. We can also see a couple of great search phrases that are
being used which would make ideal titles too:

 How to Run a Marathon from Scratch
 How to Run a Marathon for Beginners
Another tool I personally use to examine the Amazon
marketplace is KDSpy. It is technically a Chrome browser
extension rather than a piece of software, and it is specifically
for checking Kindle ebooks, but again, it is a very useful tool.
So,.let’s.now see what KDSpy has to say about our idea.
From both sets of results, I can instantly see that some people
are doing very well, making over $1K per month on Amazon
with similar information products – in this particular case,
ebooks. This confirms for me that there is certain level of
existing demand for our product idea.
Well, we may have found a profitable niche, but there is more
to it than simply writing a book and uploading it to Amazon.
You might just get lucky doing that, especially if the level of
competition is low or weak – which you can also find out using
the above tools, by the way. But, to really succeed within our
chosen niche, we should do a bit more thinking about how to
get traffic (visitors) and how to monetize it. We’ll.tackle.both.of.
these things, but let’s.start.by.looking.at.the options for
monetizing traffic.
Affiliate Products/Services
Becoming an affiliate for someone else's product or service is
incredibly easy and can be very profitable indeed! The
product/service creator pays you a commission for each sale
you.make.You.don’t.have.to.create,.deliver,.or.support the
product or.service,.so.it’s.not.only.lucrative,.it.is.a.great.way.to.
get started.
With this method, you are simply recommending products and
services that you have personally found to be useful to targeted
prospects – and that is the real key to doing it well. Read that
last sentence again and reflect upon it; allow it to sink in for a
few moments. You use your website/blog to get those targeted
prospects onto your list and then you use your autoresponder
to direct your prospects to relevant and converting offers.
Many well-known companies, including Amazon, have affiliate
programs that will happily pay you a percentage of the
purchases made by any visitor you send to their site. And in
addition, many small businesses have their own affiliate
programs too. The online marketplace ClickBank.com provides
a very simple way of starting and managing such a program and
many smaller businesses and organizations use them, especially
for digital products.
ClickBank offers tutorials on how to get started and additional
support can often be obtained from the creators of the digital
products too. Many of them offer marketing graphics, videos
and other tools and advertising materials to help you achieve
your sales goals.
Creating your own product
Whilst earning a percentage of a sale through an affiliate
program is an attractive option, especially when you consider
just how easy the programs are to set up, earning 100% of the
sale could be a lot more attractive to you. The way to do this is,
of course, to create your own product. This may take some
research on your part, but you can indeed unearth plenty of
good quality information in almost any area of specialism, that
could be packaged into a valuable and profitable information
product.
The fact is, you can draw upon all of your experience, talent,
and skills to shape the information you discover into a saleable
product. Once you get it into a format that can be transmitted
across the internet, you could quite soon have your own digital
product that could very well represent a lot of value to
someone else that doesn't have the time, or will, to engage in
such research and simply prefers to buy a book on the subject.
There are many such people and, at least in principle, there is
no.reason.they.can’t.be.reading.a.book.that.you have written or
enrolling in a digital course that you have created. A saleable
product could be as simple as an ebook, such as the one you're
reading now, or a more detailed program that may include a
series of videos, audio lessons, or some combination of these
things.
You.don’t.even.have.to.create.the product yourself because
there are many places online where you can outsource the
work. If you can type, or just talk into a microphone, then
someone else can take the recorded material and turn it into an
information product that you could sell on your website.
Other Options
There are many other ways you might monetize your traffic,
once you have it, including any of the following:
 Adsense
 Other PPC Advertising Programs
 Accept Donations
 Sponsored Posts
 Membership Area
All of the above ideas have worked and are working right now
for many people. Many websites and blogs employ a mixture of
the above methods, but you need to think about which of them
is right for you.
To do well with the methods listed above (specifically under
Other Options) you really need a lot of traffic, so they are not
the ideal place to start. They will probably be of use to you
further down the line. However, the other two options listed
above most certainly do represent very good opportunities for
anyone starting out.
We should now just make sure we are clear about the
difference between a product and a service. Quite simply, a
product is a tangible one-off purchase of some item, whereas a
service is something that is intangible and is performed on your
behalf, and is therefore required over and over again.

Excellent Monetization Opportunities
From the foregoing, we can conclude that digital products such
as books and courses are relatively easy to create, and you
could sell them in various online stores. However if you can
build a list of targeted prospects, consisting of people who have
plenty of problems they need to solve in order to achieve their
own goals, then you can take everything to a whole new level.
You can market to that list, over and over again, offering them
useful products and services that will genuinely help them.
In the process, you can be successful doing all of the following:
 Selling Your Own Digital Product(s)
 Selling Your Own Online Service(s)
 Promoting Affiliate Programs
But we need to get, not just traffic, but targeted prospects – by
targeted, we mean people who are committed to achieving a
goal and need help along the way.
We now know that there are a number of ways that we can
make money once we have a list of targeted prospects. So now
it is time to think about how we can get that them onto our list
in the first place.
You could, of course, simply pay for visitors and, once you have
a.converting.offer,.that’s.definitely.an.option.for.you.to.
consider. Facebook ads are a good source of paid traffic once
you learn how to master them. But, before you go rushing
down that particular avenue, my advice is to wait until you
absolutely know how many targeted visitors it takes for you to
make a sale.
But let’s.think.about.that.potential.book.idea.we.came.up.with.
earlier i.e. How to Run a Marathon in a Year – just as our
example, of course. The main thing I want you to understand is
that, in order to make money, you do not necessarily need to
sell that book once you have created it. You could sell it of
course, and that might be your choice. But in fact, you could
put such a book to much better use. You could use it to build
that list of targeted prospects to whom you could subsequently
send various offers, over the course of time.
Think about it for a moment, suppose you were to offer your
book for sale on Amazon and suppose your listing was getting
some traffic too. If your cover is good and your blurb (book
description) is good too, you can expect to convert a
percentage of those visitors into sales. Who knows, you might
end up making a little money by doing that.
But what if you were to give your book away instead?
You would still need to have a good cover and blurb, but you
would get a lot more takers (traffic) if your book was free. Just
to give you an idea of how this is working for me personally, I
will tell you that my leading free book gets over 1,000
downloads per day at present. So, this is certainly a very good
free method of attracting not just traffic, but targeted visitors
who are genuinely interested in the subject of your book.
What I personally do is offer a number of my books for free at
the major ebook sites (Amazon, Google Play, Barnes & Noble,
Kobo & Apple). Of course, people do not need to sign up for
anything at all to get those books; interested parties get to
download them completely free.
But those books are my traffic generators!
Once someone has read one of your free books, provided it is
good quality, a high percentage of them will feel inclined to
investigate any offer you put in the back. By the way, if you are
going to use this method to get visitors, you can’t put affiliate
links or sales offers in the book itself – the major stores simply
don’t.allow.it.and.will.ban.your.account.if.you.do,.just.as.soon.
as they find out.
But you are allowed to put a link at the back of your book
leading to your website or blog. So you now need a second
offer to entice people to visit your site and sign up to your list –
quite often, this second offer will be another ebook, offered
exclusively to people who have read your first book.
This second free book is technically known as a lead magnet.
Now you may be thinking that you are giving a lot of stuff away
here and so far, you have not earned a penny. And that’s.true,.
but we have our eyes on the long game. Once people are on
your list, you will feed them with regular, good quality
information related to your niche and periodically you will send
them offers. As a result, you will earn a very nice income,
ethically, as an affiliate marketer for many years to come.
There.is.not.much.you.need.to.make.our.plan.work.In.fact,.let’s.
just list the bare essentials:

Traffic Generators
Your traffic generators can be free ebooks widely distributed
across the web, certainly on the main sites we have mentioned
(this is my personal preference) or you can pay for the traffic if
you prefer. The following sites really are the big five stores
when it comes to ebook distribution:
 Amazon
 Apple
 Google Play
 Barnes & Noble
 Kobo
But there are many other sites that will also take your free
books and happily distribute them for you. You can reach all of
the other stores that are worth considering by distributing
through an aggregator site. The best aggregators are
unquestionably:
 Draft2Digital
 Smashwords
As you will discover if you try Smashwords, their formatting
requirements to get your manuscript through their
‘meatgrinder’.tool.are.quite demanding, although, the company
is very good as a distributor. My personal recommendation
therefore is to use Draft2Digital because they are just a lot
easier to work with.
Website/Blog
Having a website or blog just makes you look a lot more
professional and, to stay on the right side of the law and
operate ethically, you do need to make a declaration that you
are an affiliate marketer and may earn commission from your
recommendations. The best place to do this is on a page on
your website/blog; having a Terms of Service page is ideal.
To create your website, you need a domain and a hosting
package. You do need to pay for these things, but they do not
represent a major cost. Once you have obtained them, you can
install a content management system (CMS) to actually build
the site itself; a very good choice of CMS is Wordpress, which is
free. It comes with lots of different styles (themes) and it has
lots of bells and whistles (plugins) – many of which are also
free. Most hosting companies provide Wordpress installation
with a couple of clicks, as a part of their services.
Lead Magnet
This is almost always a free book, though it could be anything
that your target market wants and will find valuable. A good
ebook lead magnet has the following characteristics:
 Good Cover Graphic
 Contains Quality Information
 Is Well-Written
 No Grammatical or Typographical Errors
 Professionally Formatted
Lead magnets are often provided as PDF files from a website or
blog, and this is absolutely ideal because they can be formatted
very nicely and they are readable on any device. If your visitors
want to read them on their mobile devices, there are plenty of
free reader apps in the Google Play store that are capable of
reflowing the text and rendering PDFs perfectly - an important
consideration for mobile users.
Autoresponder
This is the final, and probably the most important part of your
toolkit because it is how you manage your list, and how you
keep your prospects updated with fresh information. You can
pre-load a sequence of emails so that everyone who joins your
list gets them all, at a set frequency, decided upon by you.
Once you have your autoresponder setup with good quality
informational emails, including tips for success, free gifts, and
of course occasional offers, you are effectively on autopilot.
Visitors find your free traffic generator book(s) at the major
online stores, they read and enjoy them and then they
investigate your free offer in the back. This brings them to your
website where you offer your lead magnet in return for their
email address. Once they are on your list, your autoresponder
works its magic!
Do you see how truly beautiful that process is?
If you follow the steps above, you can soon have your own
website live on the Internet, offering your lead magnet to a
specific niche market, and attracting visitors who are making
purchases. If you take the time to understand the information
herein and investigate the resources below, you can have your
own profit-producing process set up in a week or two.
Of course, once your business is up and running, the work
doesn't stop when you are making money. Because this is a
business, you should treat it like one, and work constantly on
making improvements to all areas, including the look and feel
of your website, the conversion rate at which you turn visitors
into prospects (sign-ups) and then into buyers, as well as
improving your autoresponder sequence and the quantity and
quality of your traffic generators.
