“Darkest Before Dawn” is about two strong-willed characters from opposing worlds.
A Viking leader who must attract the pure love of a lady by winter's end. And his last
chance -- a sworn enemy, a fiery English warrior woman who'd rather put his head
on a pike.

The book was written to provide readers with a retelling of a
much-loved fairy tale.
Author Avani Clare says, "I've worked in
communications all my life -- corporate and
academic. When I set out to write a fictional
story, I wanted to write in the genre I've love
since I was little: the genre of fairy tales."
Readers will likely find a particular interest in the ways
true love and forgiveness can change people.
"Many people believe that fairy tales are
simply meant for children, but to me,
they’ve become so much more than
that. These stories transcend all
barriers, including age, and even race."
Avani Clare
Avani says her background, especially in sociology and history helped
shape the creation of the book by providing her numerous issues to
discuss in a fairy tale context.
"Fairy tales...they’re not all about perfect
people. They can often portray the darker
aspects of life, the problems of  characters in
a way that's easy for readers to understand
and relate to no matter how old they may be.”
Clare has hopes that the book will, at the very least,
provide entertainment for fans of fantasy and historical
romance.
She says, "At this day and age, I think
adults gain so much more than
entertainment from fairy tale retellings. But
if my story can at the very least provide
pure entertainment for an hour or so, I'll
be more than happy."
This classic tale of Beauty and the Beast has been adapted many times over
the years, including an animated Disney film released in 1991 which was very
successful both critically and commercially.
"I loved the idea of an adaptation of Beauty and
the Beast. It’s such a classic formula – a story
about true love that goes beyond appearances. I
wanted to add more depth to it, so I integrated
the idea of two people on opposite sides of a war
