Health Security In Nigeria: Key Wins & Gaps From A
Multisectoral Approach
The Global Health Advocacy Incubator (GHAI)
highlights Nigeria’s health security gains as a result of
close collaboration among government, global
partners, and local communities.
Nigeria's health emergency
preparedness score rose from
39% to 54%. The NCDC received
2.9 billion Naira to boost disease
surveillance and response
capacity.
GHAI, Nigerian authorities, and groups like LISDEL and BudgIT helped secure an additional
300 billion Naira in domestic funding for public health.
With $79.2 million allocated and 25% of Gavi co-
financing fulfilled, Nigeria's immunization push is
saving lives—and $21 for every $1 spent.
Primary care gaps persist. Hypertension affects up to
38% of Nigerians, yet just 8% of women and 5% of men
receive proper diagnosis.
GHAI supports governments and civil society to drive policy wins—impacting more than 4 billion
people across 32 countries.
