Evidence-Based SEL Promotes Empathy & Helps
Reduce The Risk Of Cyberbullying
Kids that are willing to put themselves in the other's
shoes are less likely to become bullies, shows a new
study published in the International Journal of Bullying
Prevention.
By incorporating engaging activities that
promote empathy in children of all ages, quality
SEL can be a powerful asset in any school,
says leading curriculum developer Hope
Rising.
While the research is limited to fourth- and
fifth-grade students, its findings suggest
empathy could be a key preventative
factor in bullying across age groups.
"Social and emotional
learning helps children
and adults feel and show
empathy for others," says
Hope Rising CEO Rocky
Malloy
"The latest research shows
why empathy is crucial for the
healthy development of our
children - and SEL can play a
pivotal role in promoting
cognitive empathy."
With a general decline in
empathy reported, the
curricula developer states
that developing this skill in
children is now more
important than ever.
Offering its award-winning "My Best Me"
curricula for all educational levels, Hope Rising
contributes to the development of essential
psycho-social skills.
