Current Trajectory Of Dementia Care: How
Empathetic Approaches Maintain Patient Dignity
In a recent episode of the Boomers Today podcast, host
and CEO Frank Samson invites dementia care expert
Teepa Snow to talk about the misconceptions
surrounding dementia.
As the founder of the Positive
Approach to Care (PAC), a novel
dementia training and care
philosophy that emphasizes
compassion, Snow is familiar
with the history of dementia
care
Because dementia results in neurological changes, Snow says it is important for caregivers
to acknowledge and adapt to these changes in order to provide empathetic care.
She also draws upon her 40 years of experience in
dementia education to share insights on how
family members can support elderly loved ones
with dementia.
For example, an individual who appears inactive or
reluctant to socialize may have lost the ability to initiate
and is dependent on another person to engage with
them.
Throughout the podcast, Snow and Samson also discuss the current trajectory of dementia care, noting
the changing needs of families and the healthcare community.
